Downloaded from www.manucornet.net

Those who live, those who die

That day we sat down
to make a list of those
Downloaded from liquidic3.deviantart.com
who had lived their lives
the way they wanted

We thought
and wrote the names eagerly
We rethought
and crossed them out immediately
And ended up
without a single name in the list

We changed our minds
and decided to work
on a list of those
who died the way they wanted

But to our surprise
we ended up this time
without a single name,
not even one to cross out later on

Pearls

How
   long
     does
       it
         take
for the marrow inside the oyster
to roll into a ball, and harden, and become a pearl?

How
  long
    does
      it
        take
          for the young fisherman
to dive deep into the ocean, take out
a hundred oysters every day and finally smile
because there is a pearl inside one of them?

How
  long
    does
      it
        take
           for him to gather
the second pearl and the third pearl
and the fourth pearl and the fifth pearl
                                    and the many-hundredth pearl?

How
   long
     does
       it
         take
for him to choose the largest
and the roundest and the shiniest pearls,
drill them, put them one by one
into a delicate silk thread, and make the
most beautiful necklace for the most beautiful neck?

And, how long does it take,
O my friend,
for that thread to break
and for all the pearls to scatter
in hundred different directions
never to meet again?

The Middle Path

he was cold
Downloaded from www.wallpapervortex.com

          up
          party
and
he warmed up
and
warmed up
and started boiling
and
   he went to a
         cool
         down
         party

Gifts for the Master

His dream was to meet the master
and learn from him
the art of living.

But how could he go empty handed?

And, he started gathering
gifts and offerings.

After what seemed like an eternity,
he arrived at the master's gates
old, fragile and exhausted
burdened with bags and baggage,
tearful eyes and trembling hands.

As he bent down  to pay his respect,
with a lump in his throat,
the master smiled that smile
and said:
I was waiting for you!
But will you leave all that stuff out
before you come in?

The Mountain and the Molehills

Only
when he
saw the majestic
Everest soaring high
into the sky he realized
all the mountains he had been
worshiping so far with admiration
and awe  were mere miniature molehills.

"Stars and Fireflies": Some Extracts...

1. Eyes

I opened my eyes
and
looked at the world—

I closed my eyes
and
saw it.

2. Destination

Descending from the sky
a drop of rain
asked the other:
Where
are
you
going
to
fall?

The other replied:
Wherever
may
we
fall,
in
the
ocean
shall
we
meet
after
all!

3. Tears

Day and night
they kept on pouring—
I asked them:
When are you going to stop?

Others continued flowing,
but a tiny drop
looked at me and said:
When are you going to stop?

4. Hands

He could not raise his right hand—
because
I had chopped it
with my sword.

So—
he raised his left hand,
and
offered me with his blessings profuse.

5. Fingers

I look at my fingers,
I look at them carefully:

None is better than the other,
none is more important, or more graceful,
more useful, or more beautiful than the other—

They are just different!

6. At the temple

At the temple,
I saw them completely engaged—-
The worshippers were busy
throwing the coins,
The priests were busy
collecting them.
For me,
difficult it was to say—
Who were the more devout?
But i came round:
It should be the collectors,
because-
the throwers throw only now and then,
but the gatherers
continue with their hoarding forever.

7. Straight

Just two truths are there:
I want to be happy.
You want to be happy.

Just two problems are there:
I alone want to be happy.
You alone want to be happy.

Just two solutions are there:
You keep in mind i also want to be happy.
I’ll keep in mind you also want to be happy.

8. Mirror image

Why do you laugh at those
who sit on the branch
and aim with an axe
at its trunk?

You, too, all your life,
are trying to lift the chair
while you are still sitting on it!

9. Fish

The small fish
asked the big fish:
Why do you eat us?

In reply,
the big fish, in one gulp, swallowed the small fish
and gave a loud belch.

10. The piggy-bank

He indeed is a good investor
and a good saver.

He buys a clay piggy-bank,
drops coins into it for months,
and one day
when he feels that it has become full—
He breaks the little container,
collects the coins in a heap and counts them.

The very next day
he adds onto the heap some coins from his stock
and sets to the market—
to buy another piggy-bank.

Flirting with Life

I've been flirting with life for long,
And,
I have just two fears
which are one and the same:

I am afraid--
                    my flirting
might turn into something serious anytime,

And,

I am afraid--
                    my flirting
might never turn into anything serious.

Water Bubbles: A Series

1.

All the bubbles

try to go up.

2.

The higher they go up,
the sooner they burst!

3.

The bigger the bubbles,
the sooner they burst!

4.

They are
big,
small,
and of medium size,
but
all of them burst.

5.

The explosion of a bubble
is not noticed by anyone,
not even
by
the bubble itself.

6.

The bubbles look colorful
but
they actually are
colorless and transparent--
their color is what they reflect.

When they don't reflect
anythings else,
only then
they reflect themselves.

7.

Every bubble
is made up of
almost the same amount of water--
The size of the bubble
depends more
on the air in it.

8.

All the bubbles
are water
before they turn into bubbles---
All of them
turn into water
when they no more remain bubbles.

9.

All the water
can turn into bubbles...
All the water
does not turn into bubbles...

10.

Are the bubbles reborn?
They are...
They are not...
They are...
They are not...

11.

The best bubble
is the bubble
that never becomes a bubble...

Two Balls of Thread

Walking
through the
dark night, my friend
and me  lost our ways  and
fell into  a deep dry well. Groping
through the  darkness, our hands came
across two balls of thread— Our fingers moved
 vigorously,tirelessly  through  the thread
throughout  the dark night as if
a  solution would
come out
of it.

When
the night
that seemed like
an  eon came to an end,
and  the first morning rays
entered into  the old dirty well,I  saw, to
my utter dismay: I had weaved a net out of the thread
and entangled myself leaving  no  possibilities
of rescue. My  friend had weaved
a rope out of the thread
and had climbed
out of the
well.
